Another accused, Ravis Nonia, escaped and is currently absconding. Police are conducting raids at possible locations to arrest him.
On Monday, in-charge SDPO Sameer Kumar Singh addressed a press conference and shared details of the operation. Acting on confidential information, a police team was formed under the leadership of Brahmpur SHO Brajesh Kumar Singh, following which the raid was conducted.
Raid Conducted at Manoj’s House Following Secret Information
Late Sunday evening, police received information that Manoj Nonia, a resident of Raghunathpur, was involved in the purchase and sale of narcotic substances and that a consignment of drugs was present at his house.
Taking the information seriously, a police team conducted a raid at the suspect’s house after completing the necessary legal formalities. The operation was carried out under the direction of SP Shubham Arya and the supervision of in-charge SDPO Sameer Kumar Singh and SHO Brajesh Kumar Singh.
During the search, police recovered 127 grams of a heroin-like substance packed into 480 small packets. Cash, coins, mobile phones, and a Yamaha motorcycle were also seized. Police confiscated all the recovered items and initiated the necessary legal proceedings.
Names of Other Accused Emerge During Interrogation
During the raid and preliminary questioning, the alleged involvement of Manoj Nonia’s brother, Rishabh alias Munna Nonia, Ravis Nonia, and notorious drug smuggler Pintu Nat came to light.
Subsequently, police arrested Pintu Nat and Munna Nonia, while Ravis Nonia managed to escape. In-charge SDPO Sameer Kumar Singh said that the arrested accused were being interrogated.
Police are investigating the source of the narcotic substances, the people to whom they were supplied, and the identities of others involved in the alleged drug trafficking business. Raids are also being conducted continuously to apprehend the absconding accused.
Police Surprised by Recovery of a Large Quantity of Coins
The recovery of 6.700 kilograms of coins during the raid also surprised the police. Since such a large quantity of coins was found alongside the narcotic substances, investigators are examining their source and possible use.
Police are trying to determine whether the coins were connected to ordinary commercial activities or had any links to the alleged drug trafficking network. The source of the ₹1.11 lakh in cash is also being investigated.
The seized mobile phones will be examined to identify the accused persons’ contacts, possible financial transactions, and other individuals connected to the alleged business. However, whether the coins and cash were directly linked to drug trafficking can only be established after the investigation is completed.
FIR Registered Under the NDPS Act and Prohibition Law
In connection with the case, Brahmpur Police Station Case No. 270/26 has been registered. According to police, the FIR includes Sections 8(c), 21(b), 27(a), and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, along with the relevant provisions of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2018.
During the raid, police also recovered 11 bottles of whisky and one can of beer.
In-charge SDPO Sameer Kumar Singh stated that the police objective is not limited to arresting the accused but also includes identifying the entire network involved in the supply, purchase, and sale of narcotic substances.
He added that further action is being taken based on the information obtained from the arrested accused and the evidence recovered during the operation. Police are continuing efforts to arrest the absconding accused and identify other individuals allegedly connected to the drug trafficking network.
