Dumraon: A tragic road accident near the Purana Bhojpur underpass on Saturday claimed the life of an e-rickshaw driver on the spot. The accident was so severe that the driver got trapped in the steering area of the vehicle and died at the scene. The incident created a chaotic situation in the area.
The deceased has been identified as Shribhagwan Baheliya, son of Shivnarayan Baheliya, a resident of Dumraon. He reportedly supported his family by driving an e-rickshaw.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was travelling from the southern end of the Purana Bhojpur underpass towards Maharaja Kothi on the wrong side of the road. While coming from the service lane onto the four-lane road, a speeding unidentified vehicle reportedly hit him with great force.
The impact was so severe that the e-rickshaw was badly damaged and the driver became trapped inside it. It is suspected that he may have been run over by a trailer or another heavy vehicle.
As soon as information about the accident was received, police promptly reached the spot. In-charge SDPO Sameer Kumar Singh, SHO Chandan Kumar, the Dial 112 team, and NHAI officials also arrived at the scene. In the presence of the officials, the body was immediately extricated from the damaged vehicle and sent to the Sadar Hospital.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and have begun efforts to identify the unidentified vehicle and trace its driver.
SHO Chandan Kumar confirmed the incident and said that the body had been sent for post-mortem. Further action will be taken on the basis of a complaint submitted by the deceased’s family members.
