- Patna, 07 May 2025:* Government ponds of Bihar will get unique identity (UID). ‘Bihar Gazetteers’ will prove to be helpful in the direction of conservation of waterlines and will play a special role in doing UID related work.
Security and management of water sources will be strengthened
These things were said by Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi during the release of the book ‘Gazetteer-Kam-Atalas of Water Body’s of Bihar’. This book was inaugurated by the departmental minister at the session building of the Chief Secretariat in Patna. On this occasion, he said that this will not only strengthen the safety and management of water sources, but will also help the local administration to identify the encroached watershed and re -preserve them. Also, information about waterclasses like the state rivers, wetlands, ponds will be found through maps.
On the occasion of the book release, Minister Sanjay Saraogi said that this book has been published according to the thinking of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar regarding water life and greenery. He said that Darbhanga is a city of ponds, but when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar went there and realized that there is a severe water problem here, what will happen to Bihar? Only after this, the Chief Minister started the water-life-Hariyali mission. Today, this book has been released by taking inspiration from this. In this Atlas, data related to rivers, information about Water Resources Department, Ardhbhumis have been obtained from Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Ponds from the Water Jeevan-Hariyali Mission and Rural Department.
Hindi version will also be published soon
Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi also said that the Hindi version of this Atlas will also be published soon. Today the book of English version has been released. Along with this, the revenue and land reform department will also publish Gazetteer of Patna district after 54 years and Darbhanga District Gazetteer soon after 60 years.
Information related to water sources will be available in one place
On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary of the department Deepak Kumar Singh said that this Atlas will be an important reference for many departments and institutions including water resources, agriculture, road, archeology, disaster, rural development. This document will not only facilitate administrative work but will also be able to get useful information related to water sources to the general public at one place.
‘Will help in removing encroachment’
At the same time, on this occasion, RERA President Vivek Kumar Singh said that the preparation of water atlas will be the biggest benefit that government employees and office bearers will know how many water structures are present. This will help in removing encroachment. Action should be taken on employees who are failing to remove encroachments. With this initiative, all the water structures of the government will be able to be encroached and its proper record will remain with the government.
It is known that this initiative was started in the year 2020 by the then Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Singh and now it has been finalized by the current Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh.
Book will be useful for academics and researchers
The special thing about this atlas is that it is not only aware of rivers or reservoirs but also includes historical, archaeological, social, economic and environmental information. This book will prove useful for administrative functions as well as policy-makers, academics and researchers.
It is worth noting that along with Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi as well as RERA President Vivek Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh, Secretary Jai Singh and many departmental and regional officials were also present
