Dumraon: Under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Buxar, a door-to-door awareness campaign was conducted in Naya Basti, Dumraon, to educate people about the rights of persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities and the legal assistance available to them. The programme was organised under the direction of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson Kajal Jha and Sub-Judge-cum-Secretary Neha ayal.
During the campaign, DLSA panel advocate Manoj Kumar Srivastava and PLV Anisha Bharti visited households and provided detailed information about the Manonyay (LSUM) Scheme. They explained that persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities have the same right as other citizens to live with dignity, receive equal opportunities, and access justice and legal assistance.
Panel advocate Manoj Kumar Srivastava informed residents that such persons should not face any form of discrimination, neglect, or exploitation. He emphasised that families and society must adopt a sensitive and supportive approach to protect their rights. He further stated that if a person affected by mental illness or intellectual disability, or their family members, faces any legal issue, they can obtain free legal assistance and advice through the District Legal Services Authority.
PLV Anisha Bharti also raised awareness among residents, stating that integrating persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities into the mainstream of society is a collective responsibility. She stressed that they should receive proper care, protection, and respect.
Through the door-to-door campaign, residents were made aware of the Manonyay (LSUM) Scheme, legal assistance, and the rights of persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities. Needy individuals were also encouraged to avail themselves of the services provided by the District Legal Services Authority.
