Dumraon : September I is unlike other days for the residents of Dumraon in Buxar district. This day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Maharani Usharani , the wife of Late Maharaja Bahadur Kamal Singh of Dumraon princely estate.
Usharani was the first lady who believed in girls education post independence. She opened a school on her own land for girls that is now popular as Maharani Usharani school.
Senior citizens say that Maharani was always conscious of social uplift. She regularly monitored the school by visiting it till she was alive. She was known for discipline , sincerity , punctuality and responsibility. Teachers who were posted that time at the school were also very punctual and responsible.
People say , only women teachers were allowed to teach in the school and head teachers like Shail Kumari Verma , Pushp lata Verma and Prema Prasad and Savitri Jaiswal were teachers but popular for their discipline in the town. Shail Kumari Verma was the founder of the school. She was appreciated for her duty by Maharani. Today, women teachers celebrated her birth anniversary and paid tribute to her.
